Entomology 901D - Presentation Methods

Course Description

This course is designed to help students prepare high quality visuals for scientific presentations. The course also includes training in technologies that are used to find and present entomological information. This course also provides a foundation in technologies that are used in distance education, and it will enhance the ability of students to complete other distance courses. Instruction will consist of interactive training modules in which students will view PowerPoint presentations with audio. The presentations can be provided on CD ROMs, or they can be streamed over the Internet. Throughout the modules, students will follow links to more information, and they will pause to practice techniques after they are demonstrated. Instruction will be reinforced by exercises and readings from selected references. Weekly assignments are used to provide students feedback on their work. Students are required to prepare a portfolio of visuals that will include on-screen-shows, 35 mm slides, transparencies, and a poster. Grades will be based on the visuals portfolio, quizzes and homework assignments. This course is offered via distance using Blackboard. Students are expected to spend 6-9 hours per week working on assignments and to complete the course in ten weeks.
