Professional Responsibilities and Activities:

Extension:

Educational programming in turfgrass, landscape, and horticultural entomology, urban pest management, apiculture, medical and forensic entomology, and 4-H and Youth Entomology.
Major programming activities include Turfgrass Conferences and Field Days, Master Gardener Training, Pesticide Applicator Training, Commercial Horticultural Clinics, and Insect Science Programs for 4-H and youth.
Entomology panelist on the popular long-running "Backyard Farmer" program on public television.

Research:

Research is designed to develop effective, environmentally responsible, economically viable, and socially responsible integrated pest management (IPM) approaches for arthropods affecting turfgrasses, native grasses, and horticultural plantings in Nebraska.
Current emphasis is on identifying the insects and mites associated with buffalograss and switchgrass (for biofuel production), investigating their biology, ecology, distribution, and injury potential, and developing management alternatives for potential pests.
