Insecticides for Control of Grasshoppers in Dry Beans

Updated February 21, 2003 by Gary Hein and John Thomas

Economic Threshold:
Infestations of 8 or more grasshoppers per square yard within the field or 20 or more in the field margins are considered to be of economic importance. During vegetative growth stages, the level of defoliation that will result in economic losses ranges from 25-40%. For reproductive stages (flowering and pod fill), economic losses would be expected if defoliation exceeds 5-15%.
