Insecticides for Control of Mexican Bean Beetles in Dry Beans

Economic Threshold:
Scout for egg masses near the end of the egg laying period (early to mid July). The economic threshold at this time is about 0.5 egg mass per meter (about 3 feet) of row. This threshold will increase or decrease depending on cost of insecticide, crop value, and beetle survival. A later season threshold is more difficult to determine and relies on estimating defoliation levels. For reproductive stages (flowering and pod fill), economic losses would be expected if defoliation exceeds 5-15% and if larvae or adults are continuing to actively feed.
