Insecticides for Control of Thrips in Dry Beans

Updated March 11, 2003 by Gary Hein and John Thomas

Economic Threshold:
Thrips populations are more prevalent during dry periods, and populations can be reduced by rainfall or sprinkler irrigation. Little work has been done to establish treatment thresholds for thrips. Onion thrips: Consider treatment if there are more than 15 thrips per plant and damage (cupping of the leaves) is observed. Western flower thrips: Five thrips per blossom can reduce pod numbers on the plant; however, economic losses may not occur until greater thrip numbers are reached.
