On some warm summer nights, you might think mosquitos are the most abundant insects, but the honor goes to an East African group of termites called Macrotermes.
The queen is big; the one below is about 8 cm, but they can grow over 4 inches (10 cm) long! She can lay an egg every 2 seconds for a total of 43,000 eggs per day! That is almost 16 million eggs per year!!!!! A termite queen can live for many years.
