Hometown: Hastings, NE
Major: Insect Science
Expected Date of Graduation: May 2027
Why did you choose the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?
I chose UNL because I knew that I wanted to stay in Nebraska. When I was in high school, I attended the Women in STEM day and that sold UNL for me.
Why did you decide to major in Insect Science? What is your favorite thing about this major?
I was very interested in biology, chemistry, and physics in high school. However, I didn't decide to major in Insect Science until I came to college, and mentioned wanting to work with arthropod biochemistry in the First Husker program.
What is your favorite class you have taken so far, and why?
My favorite class that I have taken so far is Invertebrate Zoology with Dr. Scott Gardner. This class gave me context to other invertebrates besides insects and helped me understand biodiversity on a deeper level.
Are you involved in any clubs/organizations at UNL?
I am involved in the UNL Amateur Radio Club, the Wildlife Club, and the UNL Climbing Club.
What are your plans after graduation?
My plans after graduation are to either go to grad school immediately or go into IPM industry for a few years and then return to academia later.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I play the violin/mandolin with a small band that my friends and I created. I also like to make quilts, play tabletop role-playing games, and participate in community science projects like Nebraska's Big Butterfly Count.
