Why did you choose the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?
I decided to continue my graduate studies at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln because I had such a great experience here as an undergrad. I built strong relationships with supportive professors and classmates, and I really liked how collaborative the department is. When the opportunity came up to stay at UNL for grad school, it felt like the natural choice, since I already knew I’d be able to work closely with mentors and resources that would help me grow academically and professionally.
Why did you decide to pursue a Graduate Degree? Why entomology?
I received my undergraduate degree in Insect Science and decided to pursue a graduate degree in Entomology. During my undergraduate years, I was involved in several research projects that I found both fascinating and interesting. Those experiences made me realize there is still so much more to learn and discover in this field. I genuinely enjoy working with bugs, and that passion is what led me to continue my studies in this field.
What is your favorite class you have taken so far and why?
My favorite classes so far are Insect Toxicology and Insect Physiology. Both courses provide fundamental knowledge on how insecticide active ingredients are discovered and applied, as well as how these substances interact within insect tissues and organs system.
What is the topic of your thesis/project? What interested you in this topic?
My research project focuses on developing bait formulations for mosquito management. The main goal is to reduce pathogen transmission and improve human health. This topic is interesting because mosquitoes play a significant role in spreading pathogens, and finding effective control methods can have a real impact on public health. While working on this project, I’ve found many fascinating aspects of mosquito biology and behavior, which keeps me motivated to explore even more in this field.
What are your plans after graduation?
My plan is to enter the industry as a research scientist focusing on vector and urban pest control.
What do you like to do in your free time? Are you involved in any clubs/organizations on campus?
In my free time, I love playing pickleball, spending time with my dog, hanging out with friends, practicing photography and editing skills, and trying out new cooking recipes in the kitchen.
