Order Phasmida - Walking Sticks

Order Phasmida
The walkingsticks are readily identified by appearing very sticklike.  They are elongated insects with wings that are either reduced or absent (still pterygotes!).  Some tropical species resemble leaves by being flattened and laterally expanded with well-developed wings.  They have a shortened prothorax and the front legs are notched so that the legs can be extended forward around the head to mimic twigs.  In addition to appearing like sticks and twigs, they will also move their bodies much like that of a limb during a breeze.
