Wednesday, October 26, 2022

Dr. Deia Montezano, CortevaDébora "Deia" Montezano, a 2019 alumna of the UNL Department of Entomology, was featured in an entomology article showcasing the diversity of entomology career paths. Montezano earned her Ph.D. in entomology from UNL and was one of five entomology career professionals who were featured in Entomology Today, a publication of the Entomological Society of America (ESA).

Originally from Brazil, she currently works at Corteva in Marion, IA, as a field scientist. Product development is the career field that Montezano works in and showcased.  In addition to product development, four other entomology-related career fields were presented, including ecotourism, industry IPM (integrated pest management), biotechnology, and academic advising.

Montezano's responsibilities include corn and soybean trials testing for products that are moving to commercialization. "It's a very diverse position where I test not only insect control products ..., but I also work with corn (agronomic trials), herbicides, seed applied technology, and fungicides," Montezano was quoted as saying in the article. "One season is never like the other; my work is very diverse, and it changes every few months."
