Congratulations to Dr. Doug Golick and Dr. Justin McMechan, Entomology Department, on their promotions.
Doug Golick (far left) was promoted from Associate Professor to Professor. Justin McMechan (left) was approved for promotion from Assistant Professor to Associate professor with tenure.
Golick's appointment is in Teaching and Extension. He is interested in using insects to engage science teaching and insect systems and conservation to improve science literacy. He also focuses on pollinator education, conservation programming, citizen science programming and survey development. Golick teaches three graduate courses: ENTO 810 Insect as Educational Tools, ENTO/ALEC 830 Introduction to the Development of Distance Education and ENTO 915 Presentation Methods. He has won a number of UNL teaching awards and through the Entomological Society of America (ESA). Golick earned his Ph.D. in Educational Studies from UNL in December 2005.
McMechan has an appointment combination of Extension and Research. He works out of Entomology Hall and has research fields at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center (ENREEC) near Mead. McMechan has won a number of junior faculty and leadership awards at the university and received recognition for his outstanding papers in the Agronomy Journal and the Crop, Forage and Turfgrass Management journal. Most recently, his lab has focused on studying the Soybean Gall Midge. McMechan earned his Ph.D. in Entomology and his Dr. of Plant Health from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2016.
