Dr. Louise Lynch-O'Brien's philosophy is deeply rooted in the principles of One Health Entomology. Committed to practical training in extension, research, and teaching, Dr. Louise Lynch-O'Brien utilizes methodologies such as community science, community-based social marketing and qualitative evaluation methods, integrated closely with student education. Dr. Louise Lynch-O'Brien's programming draws extensively on social science insights, guided by constructivist and pragmatist paradigms to co-develop needs-based programs directly informed and expressed by target audiences. Recognizing that One Health requires interdisciplinary collaboration to realize its full potential, Dr. Louise Lynch-O'Brien is actively involved in network building across disciplines, institutions and communities. This effort facilitates the creation of robust teams, essential for tackling complex health challenges at the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health. Through these networks, Dr. Louise Lynch-O'Brien not only enhance's her program's reach and impact but also empowers students and community members to contribute effectively to a more inclusive and equitable scientific community.
The rich, descriptive and insightful value of qualitative methods and mixed methods research are increasingly sought in the natural sciences. Dr. Louise Lynch-O'Brien's training and committee work with students has served this purpose as she has mentored students in phenomenology (PhD, MSc), grounded theory (MSc), case study (MSc) and mixed methods research (PhD, MSc).
