The UNL Bee Lab was named the July winner of the "Heart of 4-H Award" by the Lancaster County 4-H office. The lab was recognized for its outstanding volunteer service.
Bee Lab Director, Dr. Judy Wu-Smart, Outreach Coordinator Courtney Brummel, and many graduate and undergraduate students regularly present "Busy Bees" workshops at 4-H Clover College. The lab purchases the supplies to make wild bee hotels and lab members serve as hands-on instructors at the workshops. To date, lab members have taught more than 100 youngsters at Clover College.
“It is extremely fulling work teaching youth,” Brummel said. "We consider it a privilege to share the importance of pollinator and landscape health with 4-H youth.”
