Hein receives Service to Agriculture Award

Dr. Gary Hein, professor of Entomology, and emeriti director of the Doctor of Plant Health (DPH) professional program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln received a Service to Agriculture Award!

The award was given on behalf of the National Alliance of Independent Crop Consultants (NAICC) for Hein's contributions to establishing and directing the university’s DPH program. The award was presented at the 2023 NAICC Annual Meeting Jan. 23-27 in Nashville, TN. 

NAICC has been a supporter of the plant health program. Alliance member companies have also provided experiential learning opportunities for Nebraska students. 

According to the NAICC newsletter, Hein is a pioneer in research at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his undergraduate degree from Concordia College and both his masters in Entomology and Ph. D. from Iowa State University. As a professor at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Gary has been responsible for directing and managing the Doctor of Plant Health (DPH) program. His work has allowed practitioners to integrate broad training to diagnose and solve plant health problems and maximize economic, environmental and social sustainability. Gary worked closely with NAICC and the Foundation to develop this program.
